Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a Christian Housing ministry financed through private donations and utilizing volunteer labor. Habiat for Humanity's purpose is to build and sell houses at no profit or interest with and for people who otherwise could not afford one. Religious affiliation is not a factor in determining who is given the opportunity to build and buy a Habitat House.
Habitat is not a give-away program nor subsidized housing. Homeowners are chosen on the basis of level of need, the ability to repay a non-interest bearing mortgage, and a willingness to become Partners in the program through "sweat equity" hours and support of group activities.
Nantucket Bank supports Habitat for Humanity and some employees are active participants in the Habitat for Humanity organzation and its projects.
