Community Hero Spotlight: Susan Richards

Each year Nantucket Bank asks members of the community to nominate local individuals and organizations that have had major impacts on their communities. The top 12 heroes are selected by a committee and featured in the following year’s Community Hero Calendar.

MEET SUSAN RICHARDS

June 2018 Community Hero

Susan Richards was the very first “designated” shelter manager for Nantucket Island Safe Harbor for Animals (NISHA) when they opened their doors in 2012 and her commitment to the organization has never wavered. Gwen, NISHA’s 2017 “Doggie Ambassador,” joins Susan on meet and greets around the island as dogs are adopted. Susan’s commitment to the Nantucket community does not stop with the island’s furry and feathered friends; she works at the Nantucket Community School as a family coordinator for education and outreach and teaches English at the Atheneum’s ESL program.

Susan Richards is sending her $1,000 donation from the Blue Hills Bank Foundation to the Nantucket Island Safe Harbor for Animals.

Thank you, Susan, for your continued dedication to all residents of the community.
